WE'RE CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF OUTSTANDING CARE !
Did you hear ? We're celebrating our 30th anniversary of providing outstanding care for West Milford's pets !
Our journey to Hewitt began after Dr. Eric Louer graduated from Alfort University of Veterinary Medicine in Paris at age 22 and joined a practice in France caring for both large and companion animals.
In 1989, he completed the U.S. licensing process with postgraduate studies at the Animal Medical Center in New York City and the New Bolton Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Louer heads GWLAH's surgical team and has been the owner and medical director of GWLAH since 1994.
Happy 30th anniversary Dr. Louer and GWLAH! Here's to many more !
JANUARY 2nd IS NATIONAL PET TRAVEL SAFETY DAY
National Pet Travel Safety Day was created by celebrity pet and family lifestyle expert Colleen Paige to promote awareness about pet comfort and safety while traveling. Here are some tips for traveling safely with your furry friends.
Use restraints: An unrestrained pet is a huge distraction in a moving vehicle. Not only do they take your attention away from the road, but they could also get hurt if you brake hard or get into an accident. On top of that, it's against the law in New Jersey to drive with an unrestrained pet in the vehicle and could land you a ticket if stopped by police.
Invest in a crate: Setting up a travel crate in your vehicle creates a safe, comfortable environment for taking pets where they need to go.
Forego the food: Skipping the travel snacks for Fluffy or Fido is a good idea, as they may get motion sickness or choke if eating while moving. Try to feed them a few hours before the trip to prevent indigestion.
Pack their comfort item: Whatever item your pet takes comfort in, whether it be a toy or a blanket, should come on the journey with them, as it keeps them happy along the way.
Provide proper ID: Make sure your pet has a collar with proper identification and/or a microchip with accurate information registered to it in case they get lost. It's your best shot at reuniting with them.
PROMOTING HEALTHY HABITS IN 2024
Measure pet food every time: An 8-ounce measuring cup ensures your pet isn't consuming more calories than necessary. Consult the bag for the recommended feeding guidelines and check with one of our veterinarians if you're unsure of the correct amount to feed.
Try out a new, fun activity: A new exercise routine is a great way to bond with your pet and enjoy healthy activity. This year, shake things up and try something new that will help you both get your steps in!
Coax your cat off the couch: Toys are a great way to engage cats in aerobic activity and trigger their predatory instincts. Experiment to see what kind of toys motivate your cat to get off the couch – crinkly balls, catnip toys, climbable cat trees and feather teasers are some feline favorites.
Make a date with your vet: Regular checkups are an essential part of maintaining your pet's wellness. Start the new year off right by scheduling an appointment with one of our veterinarians to make sure there are no hidden health concerns keeping your pet from living their best life!
Teach an old dog new tricks: Puzzle feeders and learning new tricks are great ways to keep pets' minds engaged and brain neurons firing.
