HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS
Just a few things to keep in mind as Halloween approaches . . .
Chocolate is toxic to pets and can cause severe vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, agitation, increased thirst, elevated heart rate and in some cases, seizures.
Xylitol sweetener causes a severe drop in blood sugar within minutes. Pets may become lethargic, unable to walk, and start having seizures. Liver damage and potentially fatal liver failure can also occur.
Be sure your pet's Halloween costume doesn't restrict movement, hearing, eyesight or breathing and do not glue anything to their fur, even if labeled non-toxic.
Keep curious pets away from candles and lanterns and never leave burning candle unattended.
Always monitor your pets around Halloween decorations, as chewed cords can cause life threatening electrical shock or burns and batteries can cause chemical burns or GI blockage if consumed. Glass / plastic shards can also lead to lacerations within the esophagus and GI tract.
